Manncorp Releases Video Demonstration of Innovative Benchtop Selective Soldering System
The high costs of lead-free solder wire and manual labor have caused increasing numbers of SMT assemblers to take a closer look at automatic selective soldering as a more efficient, economical, and reliable solution for attaching connectors and other through-hole components to surface mount boards.

Manncorp, the electronic assembly equipment supplier that has provided detailed specifications, pricing, and online purchasing capability on its website for over a decade, has just posted a video of the new ULTIMA TR2 bench-top selective soldering machine on its website. At just $39,995, the ULTIMA TR2 allows surface mount assemblers, who may have considered selective soldering equipment cost prohibitive, to improve quality and throughput with a quick return on investment.

A unique aspect of the ULTIMA TR2, which can be seen in the video, is a high precision, programmable PCB holder that moves boards as large as 330 x 250 mm (13" x 10") in the X, Y, and Z axes over a stationary solder pot and wave nozzle. In addition to maintaining a highly stable wave as small as 2.5 mm in diameter, this design also allows for the most compact, light-weight, and easily-maintained system on the market.
The video highlights other key features of the ULTIMA TR2, with special emphasis on its highly responsive solder pump and programmable flow control. By regulating both the PCB travel speed and the volume of solder flowing from the nozzle at various stages of the soldering process, perfect, bridgeless solder joint quality is assured. The video demonstrates this effect by showing a through-hole connector with parallel rows of pins being soldered in a single pass. Close-up views show excellent filleting and solder penetration.

Precision Benchtop Selective Soldering System from Manncorp Improves Quality & Efficiency

Selective Soldering Machine
Companies that are hand soldering through-hole components on surface mount & mixed-technology PCBs can speed up the process, achieve consistent results and improve product quality and reliability with the ULTIMA TR2 selective soldering machine.

Manncorp new ULTIMA TR2 selective soldering machine offers superior performance in a compact, benchtop design and at a price point that puts its advanced features within reach of low- to medium-volume assemblers.

TR2 selective soldering 35-lb-capacity solder pot handles lead-free or conventional Sn/Pb solders while an integral nitrogen hood with micro pre-heater inerts the solder site and stabilizes the wave temperature. Point-to-point and drag soldering functions, along with solder pump speed, wave height control, dip height and dwell parameter settings, are fully programmable to ensure perfect, highly repeatable solder joint quality. A high-precision, three-axis drive mechanism moves the PCB rather than the solder pot, providing a positional accuracy of ±0.01 mm.

Operators are able to monitor live video of the soldering process on their laptop or PC via the included bottom-side "witness" camera.

The TR2 selective soldering works in conjunction with the ULTIMA SP benchtop selective fluxing system. Separating the fluxing and soldering functions between the two machines provides faster throughput and more reliable, higher quality results. The SP selective fluxing applies flux precisely where it is needed using high-precision, low-pressure air-flux atomization nozzles. A single SP fluxer can support up to three TR2 selective soldering systems.

The savings in manual labor costs and increased product quality provide a fast return on investment. Learn more at www.manncorp.com/selective-soldering/

Manncorp Brings High-Precision, Selective Soldering and Fluxing to the Bench-Top with the New ULTIMA Series

From Manncorp

ULTIMA TR2 Bench-Top Selective Soldering Machine The ULTIMA Series Selective Soldering and Fluxing Systems offer a new solution for soldering through-hole components and connectors to surface mount and mixed technology PCBs.  Numerous engineering and design innovations have resulted in compact, bench-top systems loaded with features that deliver a level of performance that, until now, would have made selective soldering cost-prohibitive for many low- and medium-volume PCB assemblers.

The ULTIMA TR2 Selective Soldering System incorporates a high-precision X-, Y-, and Z-axis drive that moves the PCB, rather than the solder pot, resulting in a light weight construction that takes up only 36” x 31” of table space.  The 35 lb. solder pot and pump assembly features an integral nitrogen hood with a built-in micro-preheater for inerting the solder site and stabilizing the wave temperature.  Operators are able to view live video of the soldering process on their laptop or PC via a bottom-side witness camera included as standard.  A universal PCB holder with quick-release cam-locks handles boards up to 13” x 10”, while a larger model is available for 18” x 15” assemblies.

Point-to-point or drag soldering functions are fully programmable, as are variable solder pump speed and wave height control, along with a wide variety of dip height and dwell parameter settings that insure perfect, highly repeatable, solder joint quality.  A Windows™-based utility for off-line programming, data transfer, and unlimited program storage is included as standard, and software for fast generation of soldering programs via Gerber data or scanned PCB images is also available as an option.

A direct cable connection from the TR2 allows instantaneous transfer of soldering coordinates to the X-Y drive and high-precision flux atomization nozzle of the ULTIMA SP Selective Fluxing System  Unlike selective soldering systems that combine soldering and fluxing functions into a single unit, the combination of the TR2 with the separate SP Selective Fluxing System improves throughput (no waiting for soldering to finish before fluxing and vice versa) and keeps over-spray and sticky flux residue away from the soldering operation.
