Manncorp's "Production Runner" Turnkey is Ideal For Flexible Mid-Volume SMT Assembly

Posted by Mike Schwartz, Manncorp Marketing Director

Manncorp's new "Production Runner" turnkey PCB production line is designed to meet the needs of high-mix, low-to-mid-volume automated assembly and is equally suitable for both short and long runs. The line includes Manncorp’s acclaimed dual-head 8,000 cph MC-385V2V pick and place, the 5500 dual squeegee stencil printer and the CR-4000C lead-free hot air convection reflow system.

CEO Henry Mann claims this equipment line-up will meet the production challenges faced by today’s OEMs and EMS providers who require the flexibility and feeder capacity to process today’s ever-increasing array of component types. The MC-385 pick and place machine accommodates 128 smart tape feeders and includes Cognex® on-the-fly vision that easily aligns standard and odd-form SMDs, providing a placement range from 01005s through 100 x 150 mm connectors.

The included 5500 stencil printer features vertical lift and the ability to process double-sided boards. It maintains a consistent stencil height and pressure throughout the print stroke while separating the PCB and stencil cleanly. The compact 6 ½ ft. long lead-free CR-4000C reflow oven has a 16” pin conveyor over a 20” stainless steel mesh belt and includes KIC “Auto Focus Power” process automation software to provide optimal oven settings.

The Production Runner line is $89,995 complete. Access Production Runner Line for details, call 800.PIK MANN (745.6266) or e-mail sales@manncorp.com.

Experts Tackle Tin Whisker Problem

Great post from SMT Magazine

Tin whisker growth, risk mitigation, detection, and failure analysis will be the focus of the IPC Tin Whiskers Conference, April 17-19, 2012, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Sponsored by Lockheed Martin, the conference will feature the industry’s leading experts who will explore the full range of whisker theory and practice for the military/aerospace, automotive, medical, and consumer sectors.

“Tin whiskers have grown into a topic that never fails to arouse lively discussions amongst product designers and manufacturing personnel,” says David Hillman, principal materials and process engineer, Rockwell Collins and conference speaker. “While the impact of tin whiskers is a very real phenomenon, predicting how and when they will occur still needs to be explored. The real questions: Are we being overly conservative about the impact of tin whiskers on products and are we understating the use of tin whisker risk mitigation methodologies?”

The one and a half-day technical conference will kick off on Wednesday, April 18, with a “State of Lead-Free” address by Linda Woody, engineering manager, Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control. Other presentations will explore: mitigation measurements and whisker survey of commercial components; effectiveness of photosintering in mitigating tin whisker formation; effects of magnetism on the morphology of lead-free solder and plating; tin-lead conversion process; mechanical and electrical properties of tin, zinc and cadmium whiskers; and whisker growth evidence, root cause, and countermeasures.

Thursday’s conference presentations will begin with the keynote, “Design Simplicity and Collaboration - Advanced Practices for Reducing Lead-Free Risk,” by Steven Betza, corporate director of electronics engineering and packaging, Lockheed Martin Systems Integration. Also on the agenda, presentations from representatives of the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Bosch Automotive-Germany, Philips Healthcare, CALCE-University of Maryland, University of North Texas, Y-12 National Security Complex, AEM Inc., Celestica, and Raytheon.

Prior to the technical conference, two half-day workshops will take place on April 17. In the morning session, Senior Research Scientist Michael Osterman, Ph.D., CALCE-University of Maryland, will educate attendees on tin whisker failure risk and mitigation strategies. In the afternoon, Lyudmyla Panashchenko, aerospace engineer, NASA Goddard Space Center, will present “The Art of Appreciating Metal Whiskers,” providing an advanced level of practical guidance. A 7-Point Checklist for Effective Social Media Marketing

Bruce Johnston, LinkedIn Evangelist & Sales Coach

Here are the key things you have to do, and the key decisions you need to make to have a good, workable social media marketing plan.

First, decide on your goals. You may wish to use social media to consolidate, improve, or even change your image or brand. You may wish to generate sales revenue. You may wish to use it to conduct customer or product research using surveys and interaction with your followers or connections.

In structuring your goals, make them as simple and measurable as possible. Unless you have an atrocious brand image, I recommend going for more sales leads (I have yet to talk to someone who has said, "No, thanks. We have quite enough sales leads."). A well-executed sales lead campaign will have the side effect of positive improvement in your brand image.

Second, choose your media channel or channels. Many companies suffer from over reach in their social media campaigns--they try to do too much, underestimate the commitment required, and wind up with meagre content to share over their social media, occasional posts, and low-interest levels from their target market. They wonder what happened to their grand plans and ultimately give up. The simple fact is that one or two channels may give you 90% of the effectiveness that seven channels would.

I mention two channels because one channel is almost always your corporate blog. We will come back to blogging in future columns, but blog is usually the centre of your social media strategy.

For B2B I am partial to LinkedIn as the preferred social media. Aside from offering multiple ways to get your message out, familiarity with LinkedIn provides other benefits. For marketing, LinkedIn is a good place to gather competitive intelligence. And for sales, LinkedIn is a great place for searching for target companies and for getting in-depth information on the people at those companies.

Third, allocate resources. You’ve figured out what you have to do; now you need to figure out who’s going to do it. Who’s in charge overall? Who’s writing the content? Who’s participating in forums like the LinkedIn groups mentioned above? How often are you doing all these things? Who's is following up on inquiries?

Fourth, make sure your content is great. It needs to have value for your target audience and it can’t be a sales pitch. This is where most people get stuck. They think that if they write about “things you need to look for in a (their product area) vendor” it won’t be seen as a rather transparent sales pitch. Wrong. It will. If you do this sort of thing, the market will give you the ultimate sign of social media rejection: They will ignore you. I’ll make content the subject of a separate column, because it’s the one of the key areas where social media campaigns fail.

Washington Times Blog Article Cites Immigrant-Turned-Entrepreneur: Jordi Munoz Gains Fame & Sizeable Income Building Model Drone Aircraft with Manncorp PCB Assembly Equipment

Posted by Mike Schwartz, Marketing Director of Manncorp

This fascinating story begins with Jordi Munoz’s arrival in America and describes how he parlayed a hobby into a lucrative business. Jordi would be the first to admit it would not have happened without Manncorp’s be-kind-to-startups pricing on a stencil printer, pick and place machine and reflow oven. (Jordi has since expanded his line to two upgraded pick and place machines and two reflow ovens, sure signs that business is indeed booming.)
